Does anyone know where exactly this film was shot in? IMDB says at the Fox Studios here in Los Angeles. But from old newspaper articles I looked up, they say "New York City".

The scene where they chase Musante onto the beach looks like it was shot in Brooklyn along the boardwalk near Coney Island, although it could have been the Rockaways. And the flashback where he "meets cute" with Lee Remick was shot at Columbia University.

Interiors mostly in L.A. on sound stages. Exteriors in New York City. The bar scenes were shot in Sinatra's pal Jilly Rizzo's place on W 52nd St, a rare glimpse of the long gone establishment where Sinatra and other celebrities used to hang out in the 1960s. Jilly played the bartender who pours Sinatra a drink, you see him briefly. I think the beach scene was shot in Long Beach, Long Island if memory serves me. Caught some of it again last night but not the scene of Musante being caught but remember it from past viewings. Also spotted Sinatra's pal Pat Henry as one of the detectives, he was Sinatra's opening act for many years. I saw his act once but didn't find him too funny but I guess Frank did.

shareI agree with most of your location info, but have to disagree with the beach scenes. There are no mountains on the beaches of Long Beach, LI that are anything like what was pictured in the beach scenes. That, coupled with the style of the house, would seem to indicate California.
