Somehow, NYPD's Joe Leland, from "The Detective" (Frank Sinatra) morphed into John McClane of the "Die Hard" series (Bruce Willis). The 'Die Hard' novel by Roderick Thorp is called "Nothing Lasts Forever" and features Joe Leland going to the Nakamura Building to visit his daughter, NOT estranged wife.

The history of Die Hard is pretty interesting. After Sinatra opted out, it was retooled into a sequel for Commandohttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088944/. When that fell through, it became a standalone.

I can't help but wonder how different the film would be had Sinatra or Arnold accepted.
