Pronunciation of Diabolik
I just watched and thoroughly enjoyed the DVDs of Diabolik and of an underappreciated 2001 film called CQ that was greatly indebted to Diabolik (right down to casting John Philip Law). It was interesting watching the special features because I realized there are a variety of pronunciations for the otherwise simple word "Diabolik."
I pronounce it as it is spelled and spoken in the film: die-a-ball-ick. And I noticed John Philip Law pronounces it that way too in the features. But a few others say dee-a-ball-ick; then there was Billy Zane in a CQ feature saying Dee-a-ba-leek.
What's the general consensus from Diabolik's fans, among whose swelling ranks I number myself?
