what's up with the dubbing?

i just finished watching the new dvd release of diabolik and it's very different from the vhs/mst3k version i'd seen before. for one thing it's got english credits instead of italian and it's in widescreen instead of pan/scan. what gets me is the dubbing -- it's totally different in the two versions. does anyone know which is the original and which is the re-dub? or are they two different dubs for two different markets? i like the vhs dub better, but it's also what i'm used to. anyone got any ideas?

The print on the MST version was from Italy, as is confirmed by the Italian credits and the near-compelte dubbing of everyone involved. It was thought the American/DVD print was lost - reused by Dino, much like it's rumored he did with the soundtrack masters. However, Kim Aubry was able to find the American print for use on the DVD. To answer your question directly, the DVD one.

The American print is better IMHO, if only because they removed "Is that stud coming?"

A naked American man just stole my balloons.

I think I'll stick with my VHS copy. Gotta have "Is that stud coming?". Wouldn't be the same without it.
