Better than early Bond films?

I must say, I enjoyed Danger: Diabolik more than the early Sean Connery era Bond films. This may come across as film sacrilege, understandably, to make such a statement, but I really believe Diabolik takes me to a place that Bond films don't.

For a male/action/spy/fantasy film, Diabolik has better pacing, more action, sicker bad guys, groovier sets, sexier women, cooler gadgets and a really hip anti-hero. I love Goldfinger, Thunderball, From Russia With Love, etc. but I have to say that the subplots and espionage scenarios now seem boring and dated. Every aspect of Diabolik is fun, adventurous and "exhilarating". And isn't Diabolik's lifestyle more alluring than 007's.

Not trying to disrespect the Bond film series, which made a movie like Diabolik possible. I just wish more people knew about this lost gem.

Better than 90% of Bond movies...

I don't know what it is, but I also believe this film is just as good as the early Bond films. Better? Maybe superior to two of them. There's just something about it I can't help but not love! I will say it's unquestionably a more entertaining and adventurous film than any of the 007 movies. Still, can't deny I liked the character in the comics better. They were the only comics I ever read.

A few scenes anticipate other Bond films (or were ripped off by Bond films). Other than that, the anti-hero lacks charm and barely makes a single joke in the whole film. It also seems a very lonely movie, he is a real Billy No-Mates.

No. It's better than jock itch, but not better than any Bond film in any way. It is, however, better than the spy film Sean's less talented brother did.

I don't know that there's such a thing as film sacrilege. This comes from a different place than the Bond films do, so it's more a matter of taste which is better. If you like explosions and big-budget FX- which IMO is a stupid reason to like a movie, but it's what a lot of people go for- then the Bond movies are better. If you prefer the comic book sensibility, then Diabolik is better. It's fun in a way that the Bond movies aren't, and it's definitely more subversive.

I'd say better than early Bond films ... and later ones too. I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of 007, but I loved every ingenious moment of "Danger: Diabolik." 9/10 stars from me.

It's not even as good as the French Fantomas trilogy. The soundtrack aside, there's nothing terribly impressive about Danger: Diabolik. Kinda dull, really.
