I love the Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller which pretty much paved the way for the Christopher Nolan reboot.

I read DKR years before I saw Danger: Diabolik and when I got to the end of the movie, it seemed it was very similar to DKR. In the movie, Diabolik appears dead, Eva is in mourning wear and then sees he is alive. Diabolik winks at the camera.

In the DKR, everyone thinks Batman/Bruce Wayne died after a battle with Superman/Clark Kent. Clark Kent is at the funeral and as he is leaving, he hears Bruce Wayne's heart start beating again underground. Clark looks at the female Robin who is in black mourning gear and winks at her.

Watch the scene, look at the comic - so many parallels.

Pretty much a coincidence. You'll find those elements in a lot of films, comics, and pulps. Miller's influences are Will Eisner, Bernard Kriegstan, Hugo Pratt, Goseki Kojima, Jose Munoz (pretty much ripped him off wholesale, from Sin City onwards), and to a lesser extent, Neal Adams.
