What's Diabolik looking at in the end?

Okay, obviously this is a spoiler-heavy question...

After he's covered in gold and Eva comes to visit him in her black mourning dress, Diabolik keeps looking down and to the right, like he's trying to tell Eva something.

I confess, this goes over my head -- though I assume it's Diabolik letting her know he's about to escape somehow.

But how? What exactly is he pointing his eyes toward? Is he trying to tell her he needs her to sneak back and do something for him, like pull some lever on that gold-melting machine?

As far as I know Danger Diabolik was kind of the first part of a series that never got made, so the hints that Diabolik is giving Eva with his eyes should have been his escape plan at the beginning of the second movie! Unfortenately the box office was not great so the series got axed!

he's looking toward heaven asking the lord to forgive him for this extremely overated movie...

My impression was that he wasn't 'looking' at anything specific or trying to hint at Eva. He was simply staring to appear dead.

Yes but there's a moment when he looks off to the side as though he's indicating something to her. Threw me off a bit too.
