Scenes missing in DVD

Total disappointment with current DVD release of this film.
I noted these scenes missing:

1) The Sheriff giving Coogan his orders to go to New York to pick up Ringerman.
2) Susan Clark telling Coogan the story of nearby New York landmak, "Coogan's Bluff". Goofs even cites the jump cut left by this omission as a continuity error.
3) In hospital, Coogan has a characteristically acid exchange with a doctor.

What else have I missed?

Strange they should cut these scenes. I still wonder why. It can't be for TV release because of all the nudity left in the night club scene. Anyone have any answers for this and where one can see an uncut version? I first saw this on HBO in the late 70s with all scenes intact. Where is that version?

I saw this movie tonight for the first time on TCM.
I guess it was a mistake.
Frome reading many of these links here, a great deal of the movie was not shown.
The story skipped so much that it made no sense at all.
I guess they tried to edit it, and screwed it up big time.
I will look for it in a rental DVD. Hopefully it´s not edited.
God, why do they do that anyway??????????????

If it harms none, do what thou wilt.

I just watched this on ABC2 (Australian Television).

Scenes one and three were there, but scene 2, the mention of Coogan's Bluff, was missing.

Why???

What!!! No Gravy???

reply

These scenes were cut from the original theatrical version of the movie because they were deemed to be irrelevant (right or wrong) but when the film was edited for TV (nudity etc.) it was felt it was now too short (even after including commerical breaks) for a 2 hour time slot. So Universal added these scenes in to the TV edit to bring it up to the 2 hour time frame. I was hoping these scenes would be included in the DVD version as "deleted scenes" or added to the uncut version to make it an "expanded version" (my preference would've been as deleted scenes) but I guess not.

Out of curiosity, I tuned in to ITV4 (UK broadcaster) to see if they were going to show the full length version. Unfortunately its the same print as the DVD release.

So did I.

All those scenes are there.

Regarding the OP's post...It must be a short DVD cutting all those scenes out of a 93 minute film.

The most noticeable missing scene is after The Sheriff tells Coogan to meet him in his office. (This happens when Coogan is caught in the tub with the sexy lady), and The Sheriff tells Coogan not to bother to stand up and salute. In the very next scene, Coogan is on an airplane headed for New York City, with no details and no explanation of the assignment. THIS IS A KEY LINK! It sets the stage for the story.

Just watched this now and the omissions of 1 & 2 are pretty bad. The NYPD detective mentions a "bluff" to Coogan during the movie but you'd be lead to believe this is what the title means if you weren't aware of the New York landmark.

*SPOILER* I also wonder is there a scene missing somewhere near the end to explain the appearance of Susan Clark on the rooftop apropos of nothing and waving like a maniac. Its either terrible acting or there's a further explanation

reply

Susan was waving to Clint (Coogan) as his big (Pan Am?) helicopter shuttle took off from the top of a skyscaper (the Pan Am Building?) for the airport. Its the ending scene of the film.

I noticed this as well, very disappointing

I've got the UK Universal box-set http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Clint-Eastwood-Eight-Movie-Collection-Bl u-ray/105362/, haven't watched CB yet, but the box shows a 94mn duration whereas IMDB says 93mn. This may be the missing footage from the DVD - I hope.
