Inspiration for McCloud?

McCloud was created two years after Coogan's Bluff. Coogan is from Arizona, McCloud is from New Mexico. They both wear cowboy hats. They are both outsiders whom the locals -- both cops and civilians -- look at suspiciously. They both have their own methods of police procedure which puts them at odds with the NYC cops.
