The Pigeon Toed Orange Peel

Now that is one crazy hippie club. I love the topless African American woman floating in form above. I can just image Clint and his righty buddies coming up with that one. Classic.

Yea, the black topless black chick floating down into Clint's arms was kinda hot. Good idea.

That is really one very unusual - to say the least - name for a club. I just about near tumbled off laughing when I saw the name and heard the song. Is there really such a place in NYC?

reply

I doubt that there ever was such a club, but it's a great name and a memorable song.

Possibly not as strange a name as the "Electric Psychadelic Pussycat Swinger's Club" - it's Austin's "happening" and it FREAKS HIM OUT, BABY, yeah!!!

Now THAT would have been interesting - Coogan having to team up with Austin Powers back in the 60's!!

... no, it was made-up and shot on Universal's largest sound-stage with hundreds of extras.

What a stupid, terrible, meaningless song, ("The Pigeon Toed Orange Peel)" but oh so "60's"! I did, however love the topless woman floating down! Beautiful woman, I wish I could give her a hug and a kiss!!! (or MORE, MUCH more! LOL)!!!!

reply

Yes, a terrible name concocted by a clueless writer. There isn't a "hippie", dead or alive, who would come up with that name, let alone write a ridiculous song with that title.

reply

Well, someone did name their psychedelic-era rock bands Frumious Bandersnatch, The Peanut Butter Conspiracy and Lothar & The Hand People, so I didn't think Pigeon-Toed Orange Peel was that far off the mark!

reply

There was also a group called Strawberry Alarm Clock. Sounds like the title of a 60s Tom Wolf book!

Not to mention Dr. Hook's Medicine Show.

Yes, and don't forget Tangerine Dream!

Charlotte, 1968 - "Head" playing at the movie theater across the street from the Purple Penguin, with "Coogan's Bluff" at the South Blvd Drive-In. Far out, man. Glad I was too young for 'Nam. The Tet was very offensive that year

That whole sequence was amazing.

Pigeon Toed Orange Peel. Great scene from an entertaining movie. Clint had an amazing presence about him. One of my favourite Clint films. Very sixties.

Eastwood is a self-described "social liberal" and "liberal on civil rights," and the film's director, Don Siegel, was an avowed liberal.

So ... whatever on that comment. "Righties," especially at that time, would have abhorred such a combination of racial integration and nudity, especially given the implicit threat of miscegenation.

Cool ass club alright. But this movie certainly isn't one of Eastwoods best
