Which British actor would you cast as Caractacus Potts?.

Dick Van Dyke was great in the role, but which British actor would you choose for this role ?.

Yeah, I do enjoy watching Dick van Dyke (in pretty much anything)), but I have to feel he was miscast in this. Of course he handled the musical side beautifully, and the humour quite well, but it was a bit weird that he wasn't even slightly English, when everyone around him was so veddy veddy much.

I've just bought the Blu-ray and watched this for the first time in a fair well. I found myself wondering what Tommy Steele might have been like in the role. He was a bit music hall in his style, but then so was Dick van Dyke.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

I almost said Rex Harrison, but I'm thinking it's got to be someone who can sing and dance.

How about.......Tommy Steele?

Jim Dale

Bats, are they really blind or are they taking the piss?

Bernard Cribbins would have been a possibility. He was a comic actor and he performed a few songs in his career. I could picture him in the part.

Bruce Forsyth considered for it.

Michael Caine... would've been a different movie altogether.

He wouldn't have messed about with dressing up as dancing puppets he would have got tooled up and stormed that castle with a sawn-off shotgun. The baron and baroness would be dead. He'd have tortured the child-catcher to death for scaring his kids.

Sounds better.

Austin Powers! Blow the evil ones away, find his Mojo and shag the baroness until she has babies
