He terrified me as a kid. As a 35 year old man who's hobby is MMA he still creeps me out. Not to mention the fact that he uses sweets to lure kids into his van. Something even more creepy about that given what we know about child abductions today.

I honesty don't entirely understand what was so scary about the Child Catcher? Don't get me wrong, he is an inherently creepy character. I can understand if you're a little kid and a man dubbed the child catcher would be frightening. What I'm trying to say is that the moment that you see him, it's incredibly obvious that he's a bad guy. I guess I saw and still he him as a surreal, camp villain (something that you would see on the Adam West Batman TV series). Maybe if the Child Catcher was a more unassuming, non-theatrical looking guy would he be more scary at the core.
