So Frank wasn't going to buckle up

...until he noticed the suspicious Charger parked across the street.

Even in 1968, what kind of example is driving around unbuckled setting for our children??

Oh, please. The king of cool is about to engage in the best car chase ever (up to that time, at least) and you're worried about his seat belt not being buckled? It wasn't even illegal at that time. If your comment was tongue-in-cheek, pardon my response.

Great tongue in cheek pic

reply

Yeah, Bullitt was too cool to buckle up.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

There was a public service tv campaign in the '60s to use seatbelts, but most people didn't start using them regularly until the late '70s or early '80s, and they weren't required by law in California until 1986. An independent-minded guy like Frank Bullitt, who started driving in the 1940s, would probably not use them, at least not unless he thought he was about to get into a wild car chase!

Is this a plot hole?

reply

No, it is not a plot hole.

reply

Correct, because it had nothing to do with the plot

In 1968 you would see a lot of people driving around unbuckled. At that time, a lot of cars still didn't have seat belts.
