overrated
Watched this movie last night. Long, slow and pointless. Even the car chase was over rated. Disappointing use of my DVR. Mc queen was great in The Great Escape but this one fell flat for me.

I agree. I thoguht it was slow and pointless too.
However I could appreciate the car chase scene for what it was. Too many advances today to make completely different chases.
The airport scene was hilarious though. No longer makes any sense compared to the modern checkin process.
You young CGI boys are clueless.
shareI think that the chase scene is pretty good, and it's the highlight of the movie for me. What I think is overrated, is the story, and I felt it was really an average detective story, that doesn't hold up well now.
That said, it is a good movie, like a 6 or 7/10 good. Good but not great.
Oddly enough, I like this film for everything except the car chase.
shareThe car chase is better appreciated when seen on a big screen in a theater. The shots through the windshield going down those steep hills were very effective.
shareOkay, well, you're one up on me then. It makes sense.
shareTo get the effect the chase had on a theater screen, get a BluRay DVD and play it on a 78" curve screen UHD tv while sitting at the focal point of the curve. That puts you in the drivers seat looking through the windshield going down those hills. Might even be better than seeing it in a theater. :-)
shareBullitt had, what is considered, the first real car chase scene in a modern movie. All other car chases built off of this one. Next was the car/el chase in French Connection.
shareProbably a bit too intellectual for you. The corruption evident in government in this film was right on. The car chase the best ever and acting spot on.
shareEvery single overrated thread needs a douche to come along and suggest that perhaps the OP wasn't clever enough to understand the movie.
Congrats buddy - you're the douche.
Mr. Laurio, never trust a beautiful woman. Especially one who's interested in you.
This movie is not overrated. McQueen is fine and the SF location is a great time capsule of how SF was during the late 60's. The original poster was not clever enough to understand the movie.
shareNo offence, but you're clearly a bit dim. Not enjoying a movie is not the same as not understanding it. You really should read a bit, look up some words in the dictionary. Here I'll help you out:
enjoy
verb: enjoy; 3rd person present: enjoys; past tense: enjoyed; past participle: enjoyed; gerund or present participle: enjoying
1.
take delight or pleasure in (an activity or occasion).
understand
verb: understand; 3rd person present: understands; past tense: understood; past participle: understood; gerund or present participle: understanding
1.
perceive the intended meaning of (words, a language, or a speaker).
I guess I'm not a smart guy like yourself Mr.Internet tough guy and BTW thanks for the lecture.

Just watched Bullitt tonight. Could not agree with you more. ~ And the only decent part was that it forced me to come here...and thus really enjoy your comment. Thanks ~ 😀
The douches are the clown who thinks it's overrated, and the other clown who defends him.
shareBullitt? Intellectual? I pity you for many reasons.
shareI just love a good thread. No movie is over rated if you like it. I just watched it tonight and I didn't think it that good. I liked it more 40 years ago. The car chase is cool. Both you fans did a good job putting each other down. Thanks for the entertainment.
shareMcQueen makes the movie, put ummmmmm Robert Redford in it, its average (with a good car chase)....but McQueen is at his enigmatic best here
ps if you got to a cult classic message board and say something is "overrated" you have to expect some return fire, this was pretty mild
That's why Usenet is far more entertaining. No punches pulled as they have to be here
sharePut Robert Redford in the car and you have a dead Robert Redford. Does everyone here understand that McQueen did his own driving? Like Paul Newman, Steve McQueen was a superb, world-class racing driver.
shareI disagree. Bullitt is a phenomenal film.
Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
