I love this movie

This movie is so great Tony Curtis scared me so much.

99% of the time a hero is someone who is too cold, tired & hungry to give a damn.

I know! I'm watching it for the first time in many years, and it is so much better than I remembered. It is really pretty graphic for the time and Tony Curtis is much better than I remembered. I like the split screen and I think the fear in the city is palpable.

I watched this morning too. I seldom get to see this. I think I`ll rent it next time I want to see it though. Did`nt it bother you at the end, when AMC did a bit of screen splitting of their own, and showed commercials of other upcoming films? They did it before the credits even rolled! what`s up with that?

reply

Yes, I HATE when they do that! I've always like to watch the credits roll and listen to the music at the end, and they always speed it way up and squinch it off to the side like that. Grrr.

They did`nt even wait for the credits though. They squinched it up at a very dramatic moment in the film. I thought Tony Curtis`s performance, as he`s going through the motions of how one of the murders was done, was brilliant. Henry Fonda was still talking. The movie was`nt even over.
I also get irritated when the credits are distorted so bad, you can`t read them. In another thread, I picked on AMC because I was angry that they would do this before the movie was even finished, but there are other channels that do this too. I just think there are enough commercials already. I can wait till the end of the credits to see what is coming up next. All those people who worked on the film deserve some respect....that`s why they call em CREDITS.
OK..... I`ve vented. Have a great day! LOL!

I can see what you mean about the sense of fear in the city during the time DeSalvo was terrorising the area but have you seen Summer of Sam by Spike Lee yet? He really builds the tension and sets the scene so well with his direction in that movie and it is paced fantastically too

I watched it just know. It is rather disturbing to think that anybody could be like the Boston Strangler. Brilliant acting on Curtis' part but it does rather ethrall me on this subject.

The editing techniques especially during the on - going interviews between DeSalvo and Bottomly were a great addition to the narrative. The final moments where DeSalvo was stood alone in a white room with a slow fade was a fantastic ending.
