Has anyone noticed....

At the beginning of the movie when Dean Jones is reading Alditha Teach's spell book, there is a spell to turn mercury into gold.

This spell would have solved all of the financial problems without having to go through the whole spiel of fixing the relay race. Of course there wouldn't have been much of a movie!
