DVD is calling

Why again is a brilliant classic film being denied the world of DVD....the film is ran quite often on Turner Classic Movies in its original aspect ratio of 2:35 to 1 and it has a stereo soundtrack as well....but it would a world better on DVD especially in 16x9 enhanced for widescreen tvs...It is an off-beat spaghetti western for the fact of the time period being in the area of 1747 so not a lot of carbine sounding weapons that is typical with spaghetti westerns and Italian films in general...Perhaps TCM will have another viewers contest to vote on their favorite TCM films to be released on dvd and this be one of them.....also it has one of the best soundtracks ever courtesy of the Maestro himself Ennio Morricone, the film could be considered a religious film as well, since it covers religion in a realistic fashion, the pros and definately the cons of organized religion and the dependance on God to do everything for you when it is pointed out that God is in ourselves to provide and do for ourselves..

I too am holding out hope for a DVD release. But I suspect we'll both be disappointed for a while longer.

Every month or so I dutifully log onto Amazon.com and search for the DVD for "Guns for San Sebastian." Alas, it remains one of the "not available." It is a fine film with an excellent performance from Anthony Quinn and another outstanding music score from Ennio Morricone. Someday . . ..

Still waiting for the release. No sign of anything yet.
Who knows it might appear yet in a box-set, or am I hoping for too much?

reply

I have it on VHS. Just watched it this past weekend.

It, and the occasional taping of regular TV programming, are my only reasons I still have a VHS recorder/player.
