remake this crap

Yes its a word seen too frequently on the I.M.D. (remake not crap)but surely such a major campaign of WW2 deserves a lot better than this. It`s not even saved by one or two decent action sequences as Mitchum & cast totally nod-off during proceedings.Instead of storming the beaches the film gets stuck in an Ambulance with a couple of whores & doesn`t that scene just go on & on & on.

The Italian Campaign has been severely neglected by the film industry(Casino?) & it would be a terrible shame if this is it`s only major representative.

Wow, what version did you see?

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

Yeah I think the battle of Anzio is an interesting story - too bad they didn't decide to tell it here, even after shelling out all the money on a huge cast, those uniforms, and that hardware. Even star director Dmytyrck really drops the ball here. The haystack ambush is neat, but never really feels the slightest bit realist. Ditto with the quick battle in the farmhouse. The only tense, realistic bit is the battle with the 2-3 German snipers.

I liked this film, but I was very disappointed with it. It's like the "Midway" of the European theater. Fun and watchable, but sloppy.

A Remake? No. Another movie which actually covers Anzio, Salerno, Monte Cassino, etc? Yes.

I agree the Italian campaign deserves a good movie. While this movie doesn't concentrate on the Anzio campaign the movie is still accurate. The story about the Ranger battalions getting wiped out near Anzio is true. Less than 10 men made it back to the Allied lines at Anzio from those Ranger battalions.

My biggest complaint about this movie is not the laziness of the production or using incorrect tanks, weapons, using stock footage etc. but Robert Mitchum's character. His character is not a WWII reporter, but a 1960s anti war person.

It does deserve a good movie but we're unlikely to see it. It wasn't an Allied victory and, as the saying goes, the victors write the history books. Dozens of movies about Midway and none about Leyte Gulf. "Guadalcanal Diary," yes, but "Battle of Savo Island", anyone?

The only director who I could see doing a good job is Spielberg or a mini series in the Band of Brothers vein.

I would definitely go to a better telling of this story. My uncle was KIA at Anzio. There have been non-winner movies; "A Bridge Too Far" comes to mind.
