Song in beginning of movie...

Ok...what's up with the song at the beginning of the movie? It completely doesn't fit. It's a movie about World War II, and they put in this cheesy late-60's tune that just doesn't belong. I have found other 60's war movies that also include mismatched or silly music that takes away from the seriousness of the topic. Can you imagine 'Saving Private Ryan' starting with a Celine Dion song?

Some studio exec probably owed someone a favour.

Shame they had to add a comedy character too - a gold-bricking private with three girls in tow.

That godawful song confused me, too. And the first scenes with all the roughhousing on the chandelier made me think this was going to be mostly comedic, like KELLY'S HEROES.
"We're fighting for this woman's honor, which is more than she ever did."

reply

Ever see Kelly's Heroes? Same thing. I guess it was a 60's thing.

reply

At least the song in KELLY'S HEROES is halfway decent. The one that opens ANZIO is godawful.

do you mean 'bye bye blackbird' made popular in USA by Gene Autry circa 1926 ?

reply

No, no, the song sung over the opening credits.
"May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?"

reply

I say old chap ..was it really.. must have missed that

I agree.
Better music for a Rock Hudson and Doris Day comedy
"This world is yours", sung by Jack Jones.

When I knew I was going to be watching "Anzio" I looked it up in my Robert Mitchum bio and among other things read about the opening song.
The lyrics are credited to Doc Pomus who was the creator of a lot of terrific rock and pop music.

This effort is very possibly the worst theme song in the history of the world.
