Weapons errors abound.

Many US soldiers are repeatedly shown carrying .303 Enfield rifles, a British weapon that was never issued to US troops. In the beach landing scene, the landing craft carrying Robert Michem has M1 Garands, the correct rifle, but when the troops hit the beach they then have Enfields, which were also shown being carried when they loaded onto the ships and while onboard.

The tank that passes in the ship embarking scene is a Korean War era tank, and was never used, or even existed, in WWII.

To those who question why a modern tank was in a world war II movie what are they suppose to use?

reply

Shermans.

reply

Yes, the No. 1 Mk III Enfields in the hands of the US troops turned my head too. It's not as if the Italian army of 1968, when this film was shot, lacked M-1's to put in the hands of the extras portraying the US infantrymen.

reply

Patton tanks (which weren't around til much after ww2), Americans with British rifles, Germans with British machine guns. I'm not a nit-picker but really - if they couldn't find real weapons to fire blanks, then at least prop guns.

reply

The Tanks looked like M41 Walker Bulldogs. Yes, I noticed the rifles were not M1's

Recoilless rifles were also shown on the jeeps that were not in use until 1945.
