A Very Good Film

My wife and I have just watched this film after I bought it on DVD. We remembered years ago before we were married watching it one night on the television at her mum's house and how enjoyable it was.

It still is.
The whole cast were brilliant but the performance of Bette Davis was outstanding. I'm so glad that neither my mother or my mother-in-law is like the dreaded Mrs Taggart. She is such a monster.

A great film and it reminds us of how great an actress Bette Davis was.

yep, i agree.
this film was brilliant-i hope i dont get a mother in law like mrs taggart, but i would like a mother in law like bette davis lol.

THE ANNIVERSARY certainly has one of her most interesting performances, but I never recommend it to people just getting started with Davis - if they haven't already been exposed to classic Davis such as JEZEBEL, THE LETTER, NOW VOYAGER, THE OLD MAID and ALL ABOUT EVE, they might find it difficult to believe that she won two Oscars and was nominated 8 other times.

Bill Macllwraith's 'The Anniversary' was an even better stage play! Bette Davis' role was played by Mona Washbourne and Mona's performance on stage had way more impact than Bette in the movie. Shiela Hancock's performance is exceptional and it just doesn't come accross in the movie. Even so - A terrific piece!

I watched it for the first time today and enjoyed it hugely. I loved Sheila Hancock's performance - she should have got some awards attention for it, I feel.

this movie is really good on a evening when you've got a good buzz and feel like a laugh. bette davis is great in it and it's all you could hope for from one of her "crazy old lady" movies that she did around this period.
