I was sure as a kid seeing this movie that the frame was broken into and that hidden card was revealed to us .,?

Not of course.
Van Morgan was a cheater as well...any straight royal flush was in hidden card.

As Van explained, the other players folded. Since no one called, he was not required to show his hole card. May have been a winner or a bluff. Since no one called, we will never know what he held.
