Hey, I saw your message on 'I need to know' message board.
It was a couple of years ago that I saw this very good western, but I remember I thought she just had a crush on him, and he found her too young or too nice for him and, as you said, went for the Madame.

I think at some point they did have a physical relationship but only briefly. Maybe Van figured she was a little too young/immature for him and didn't want to continue it. If I were him, though, I would have picked her over the blonde.
