Episode #7 Discussion Thread 5.8.13 *Contains Spoilers*

You know the drill.

Way better than the horrible episode yesterday. They must have brought out all the kids today. And apparently Todd just fell asleep yesterday since he is walking around feeling sick now.

Good episode! I actually felt bad for Todd today. He's trying to make peace, and he's slowly dying at the same time. Vicki, Blair, Todd, Victor, Matthew, Jeffery, and Dani were all good today. Their characters seemed much more real on today's episode--no so fakey. The best thing about today's episode -- no Shelter!

I have only been able to watch the first part, but I gotta say...

Who DOESN'T carry a lucky box cutter with them at all times?

reply

I'd say this was, by far, the best episode of the new series. This week's been shaky, but today just flat-out felt like OLTL.

I also think they really need to make Todd and Victor interact more. They've got an interesting dynamic I really want explored.

LOL...I know, right? When he said he has his lucky box cutter I said, "As we all do." Vickerman saves the day!

I'm kind of wondering with RH going back to GH soon and out of the picture for a while, the Victor/Blair moment today made me think they might go with a Tea/Victor/Blair triangle for a while.

The only thing I found disappointing about today's episode was the lack of Sam's reaction to seeing his father Victor alive

reply

That was weird.

Yes, the Sam/Victor "reunion" was a let down. I'm enjoying the show overall and I understand with the shortened running time, things are left by the way side, but c'mon. I'm assuming Blair told Sam offscreen that Victor was alive, but Sam (just like the rest of Victor's family) had no reaction to seeing him alive and in the flesh.

Similarly, when Viki told Victor that she heard that he had been held hostage by Allison Perkins. Really? How did she hear this? Who told her? As Ricky Ricardo would say, "You've got some 'splainin' to do."

reply

How did she hear this? When did Victor explain it to someone else? that was the moment I was looking most forward to. Did I miss it?

For downright amateur villains you birds win the nickel-plated hot dogs.

reply

I assumed Victor at least told Tea that much and then Tea told Viki. But obviously Victor has not explained the whole story at length to anyone.

As for Sam's reaction, I really assume Victor and Sam had an offscreen reunion. It's now been a few days since Victor came back, so it would make no sense for him to wait this long to see Sam. And, even if they've handled other people's reactions wrong, they wouldn't just have Victor and Sam have no reaction to their first seeing. Like most soaps, I think they just treat pre-teenaged children as afterthoughts and don't have them present for every big moment - especially since little kid actors usually can't sell it anyway.

I wonder if they're playing down Sam/Victor because of how close Sam was to Todd in the past. Speaking of which, we need some Sam/Todd scenes.

"I wonder if they're playing down Sam/Victor because of how close Sam was to Todd in the past. Speaking of which, we need some Sam/Todd scenes. "

It would be a great twist if they showed Sam bonding with Todd over Victor in the same vein that Dani and Jack prefer Victor over Todd.

reply

Frankly, I think they're just not giving Sam significant scenes because he's a little kid, and while the actor's cute and fun, he's not really amazing, and can't play emotional scenes like that of discovering his father's returned from the dead. I really think Sam will be included in as much as he has to in as much as he's a kid Victor and Blair share, and is Jack's brother and Dani's step-brother, but I don't think we're headed toward tons of material for him.
