How can Roger Howarth do OLTL if he's on General Hospital?

he can't possibly be allowed to do both can he? it says he has a different role on General Hospital now as does Kristen Alderson and Michael Easton..but with him being in the main opening theme, i wonder why he's there if he's on GH now

The OLTL episodes were taped well in advance of GH's. Plus Prospect Park wanted RH so bad, that they gave him a special deal.

Didn't they want Kristen Alderson and Michael Easton as well, but couldn't reach a deal with them?

reply

From my understanding, Alderson and Easton refused to return to OLTL. I believe they were approached, but said no, for whatever reason. I think their agents or lawyers advised them to stick to GH.

I think PP really wanted RH badly, as Todd is central to OLTL. I also believe that Howarth himself wanted to return to OLTL, for a short term anyway. I think Howarth enjoys playing Todd and working with his OLTL castmates again (Kassie DePaiva, Erika Slezak, Florencia Lozano). For now, it does not appear that Howarth will be able to play Todd on "GH" or anywhere else, so if he wants to play Todd it's OLTL.

As for Alderson, she claims she was scheduled to meet with PP in June to discuss reprising Starr, but I believe that was before the lawsuit. Who knows what's going on now? I really don't think the new OLTL needs Starr. If push comes to shove, they can recast Starr. They did a similar recast with Jessica when Erin Torpey left and Bree Williamson then played the role for another 10 years.

I'm pretty sure they just killed him off on OLTL, so I doubt that will be an issue.

He's not dead. They wouldn't kill off Todd, especially since the original plan was to have Roger Howarth come back.

reply

I agree. They wouldn't have put him in the show opener just to kill him off. Like someone else said, I bet RH has a special deal with Prospect Park, where he can be on OLTL playing Todd sometimes..and other times he will be on GH as this new character.

The filming schedule for OLTL is really light, so it sounds like it's not super difficult for RH to be able to do both. There may be some stints where Todd's offscreen for a while, but shouldn't be that bad.
