City of Eterna and Old West Storylines

First off I'm not a Soap Opera Guy. But when I was young. My Mom would watch soaps and Back Then during the summer they did a few Sci-Fi Storylines. One was the City of Eterna about some underground city and the other was a Storyline of Clint going back to the Old West. It's about the only thing I remember from the show. Anyways i was wondering if anyone else remember these.

Yes, I remember both. The Wild West storyline wasn't in the summer. It started in February sweeps 1988 and ended in May sweeps 1988. Clint, who was blind, fell off his horse and woke up with eyesight restored in 1888, where he met Viki's great grandmother, Virginia.

The Eterna storyline was kind of odd, an underground futuristic city of gold where the cast wore spacesuits. LOL.

These were two of my favorite OLTL storylines back in the day. I was a teenager at the time so I loved the "sci-fi" action type stories.

Yes, unfortuneatly I DO rember them and who ever thought those story lines up must have been smoking crak cocaine, the only good thing I can say about those storyline3s is that John Mc Bain was NOT part of either one

They were very entertaining and very different storylines.I did find it odd that Viki and Clint never spoke of 1888 again though.Perhaps they decided to keep it to themselves so people wouldn't think they were crazy.

Eterna was the best soap storyline ever.

so was the Clint story similar to Rex and Bo going back in time??

Yes, but more elaborate. Clint travelled back to 1888 Buchanan City, Arizona. OLTL built an entire Western set for that storyline with stagecoaches and horses and saloons. The story went on for months with many of the shows actors playing dual roles. Erika Slezak played Viki in the present and her great-grandmother Virginia Fletcher in the past. Phil Carey played Asa in the present and his grandfather Buck Buchanan in the past. John Loprieno played Cord in the present and his great-grandfather Cody Vasquez in the past. There was even the added twist of Blaize, Buck's wife from 1888 being transported to present day 1988. (FYI: Blaize was played by Robert S. Wood's real-life wife, Loyita).

I watched soaps back then and didn't watch these, but remember seeing them, but thought they were ridiculous, both of them.

Clint going back in time was nothing but cashing in on Back to the Future's popularity and the silliest bit was truly when the lady, Blaize, traveled to the future.

The problem with many of these stories was once they were done, I knew they would never be referred to again, so why bother watching to see how they turn out?

The Eterna one was funny because it was silly seeing how many different camera angles they would come up with trying to make it look large and spacious. The set may have been one of the biggest made for a soap, but no matter how large the set, it's still going to be limited to what the camera can show, so we got all these closeups, far off shots, from above, from below, . . . . over and over again! LOL!

I loved the 1888 storyline. It was only supposed to last a few weeks but due to the writer's strike and the popularity of the story they extended it out. I seem to remember CR saying the actors came up with a lot of their own dialogue.
I was watching without spoilers and the start of that story was shocking. And I ended up loving it. I always thought it should have ended with Clint waking up in the prison with Bo/Didi/Deliah. To me that would have made the faux Bo story even better. Because faux Bo was clearly pursuing Viki.

Eterna to me was just a disaster. Back in the day one the soap mags did an article talking about how they had seen the storyboards for the Eterna story and thought it would be amazing but when it aired the story was just poorly done.

I think the reason the Viki's in Heaven and 1888 stories worked is those stories were grounded in the history of the show. Even the 1888 story worked as it explored the past of the Buchanans and Viki. Eterna had no real stakes or purpose.

Eterna was entertaining but really just an elaborate way to explain the existence of Viki's daughter Megan. I had fun watching it though.

The 1888 was mildly entertaining but just seemed a bit convenient that Viki's great grandmother ended up in Buchanan City (I just can't even talk about that name). And Clint attempting to marry her which would have either changed history so that Viki was never born or he would have ended up being his wife's great grandfather.....eeeeeeeeewww.

I liked how Ginni Fletcher's husband/Viki's great grandfather was hired full time as Roger Gordon for the Eterna story. I actually thought he had more chemistry with Viki at that time as she and Clint had clearly grown apart.
