Tyne Daly + Clarence Williams III

I just watched "The Death of Wild Bill Hannachek " (S2, EP9) on MeTv, the episode where Pete and Linc, jump out of the Woody before it goes over the cliff and burns. In this episode, which has Sheb Wooley as a guest star, also has another guest star, Tyne Daly. I wonder if this is where Clarence met his future wife, Tyne. Does anyone know? This episode also featured Peggy Lipton, as Julie, singing at a Country Western bar.

lol....You're mixing your 70's era black actors up. Clarence Williams was married to Gloria Foster. She appeared on The Mod Squad a couple of times. Tyne Daly was married to George Stanford Brown. He was in The Rookie and Roots among other things. Gloria Foster was also the original Oracle in the Matrix movies.

I have just one thing to say about your reply: SOLID

Seriously, as a side note, I saw this episode too and I thought Peggy's attempt at singing was pretty weak. I think I'd rather hear William Shatner sing...well, maybe not... but it's close.

This reminds me of the recent dust-up when an LA entertainment anchor was interviewing Samuel L. Jackson but thought he was Laurence Fishburne! Jackson ripped him a new one.

Oops. My bad. You are correct; it was George Stanford Brown, she was married to, not Clarence Williams III. Gee, I think a senior moment caught up with me, and I posted it for everyone to see. Anyway, does anyone know if George Stanford Brown (of "The Rookies" fame) and Tyne Daly ever acted together in a film or on television? If so, is this how their relationship started, or did they meet off the set? Just curious...

reply

I should do my own research before putting my foot in my mouth...again. Tyne appeared on 4 episodes of "The Rookies" during it's series run. I would assume that this is where she met George. Thanks IMDB.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Too much knowledge makes you a know-it-all...

She did those episodes of the Rookies from 1973-1976. She had been married to Georg Stanford Brown since 1966.

They have a daughter together who is also an actress. Her name is Kathryne Dora Brown and she co-starred with her mother on Judging Amy in a recurring role as a lawyer.

Her daughter looks African American like her father in skin tone but her facial features, especially her smile, look just like Tyne. Though you can also see a resemblance to her father in this first picture.

Good photos, those. Yes, you can see the resemblance to her parents.

I didn't realize that Tyne Daly had married Brown.

I did remember her, when I started seeing her in larger roles, as a frequent guest on many of the shows I used to watch. She seemed to always be on the run, as a criminal, or fleeing from some bad guys. She always seemed to look the part of the sad, almost crazy woman (see her in The Women's Room - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081771/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 )

Yes, they were married for 24 years. They married in 1966 and divorced in 1990.

So says her bio on Imdb. I had no idea, prior to your posts, though.

I also had no idea who he was until the Rookies.

Remember that GSB played an escaped Slave that married a privileged young white woman (Kirstie Alley) in North & South?

reply

Ummmm, yeah, but that was much later. Around 1985 or so. I think that was his last on-screen performance. He has worked (and had for some time prior to N&S) as a producer.

reply

For some reason I remember Daly and Williams dating about 20 years ago, after she divorced Brown.

reply

In one of those episodes Tyne's character Amy and Terry (Brown) develop a romantic relationship. I believe Tyne was blind in that episode---or in some way disabled. Interestingly, her father in the episode showed no reservations whatsoever about their being of different races, which was quite unusual at the time

reply

Tyne dated Williams after her divorce like those ratchet Kardashians she has a thing for black men...lol She was 40 years ahead of her time...

This thread has several opportunities for people to be rude or hurtful. As that didn't happen, I just want to say kudos!

I don't know if people mean to be hurtful from behind their computer screens, but it has gotten so common that I actually notice its absence. As an admittedly thin skinned person who was recently rudely misquoted on another site,I really appreciate the tone throughout this thread.
