Why was Lady Elaine such a b**** to everyone?

Was the woman nice to anyone ever? I have to admit if I lived there I'd probably be a b too but it's supposed to be a kids' show.

I don't know but she sure is funny as an adult to watch and see how cold she would be to everybody. So self celebrating. I've actually met people just like her. I'm sure everybody has, but I mean JUST like her. Painful character to be exposed to as a child, true, but then she probably was there to serve as a bad example.

if you don't win it doesn't matter, as long as you lose like a winner!

That was the character. She was a feisty woman who wasn't afraid to stand up to people. Personally, the later episodes I was a little frightened of the way she looked.

One thing i can tell you all is as I grew up watching this show my favoirte part was wondering what Lady Elane Fairchilde would be up to each day. She was my most favorite one of the Puppets. I can tell you that as a young child I would always get a laugh out of her when she would say Boomerang, Toomerang, Zoomerang!

So one thing you need to all now is someone might start doing impersonations of that Puppet by saying "Hello Toots!"

You really are lame to get people's posts deleted. Do you always report abuse on people who disagree with you?

I think Fred Rogers said that Lady Elaine existed to introduce conflict to the Neighborhood of Make Believe. If it weren't for her, people would usually just get along, and that wouldn't be as interesting.

Lady Elaine... lay across my big brass bed...

Vice, Virtue. It's best not to be too moral. You cheat yourself out of too much *life*.

The show would have sucked--like Barney...etc

She was like that in order to keep things realistic (well, as realistic as they can be in the land of make-believe, lol). People DON'T get along all the time. There ARE conflicts that often come up. There ARE difficult people just like her in this world, and Mr. Rogers wanted children to learn how to deal with people just like her. Instead of saying, "F--- you, b----!" in an overly emotional manner, Mr. Rogers wanted to teach children the mild-mannered, kind way to deal with people like that. This is why Lady Elaine existed and had such a personality like that. To teach children.

It's saddening that no other children's show (as far as I know) teaches basic social skills and basic solutions for dealing with difficult people in a more realistic manner, even if using puppetry and imagination to convey those messages.

I actually liked Lady Elaine as a kid and still do as an adult. She's comical in the way she delivers her attitude problem. Not only that, I remember some episodes where she thoroughly angered King Friday, getting right on his last nerve.

I've had the noodle dream. Did you have the noodle dream too?

She was the free spirit that would tell it like it was no matter what anyone else thought of her. And she showed that you could be yourself even if you didn't conform to what others thought was acceptable.

LOL...I was born in the early 70's....The song by Bob Dylan "Lay lady, lay"....I used to think that he was saying 'Lady Elaine'. lol

Well, my secret, when I was a kid, was not taking her too seriously. She never really bothered me. I just saw her, accepted her and that was it. King Friday may have said some things, one thing in particular, that I didn't like, but I wound up forgiving him by the end of the week when he saw the light and realized he had made a mistake. Anyhow, that's how I dealt with her and, in a way, still do. Just don't take her too seriously. Just accept her as she is and move on.

I liked her. Consider how sugary sweet and boring it would be if she was not there. Blech
