Fact: Mr. Rogers didn't like SS. Because it is pressures kids to learn numbers and letters. And there is no transitions.

When times were changing (like new cartoons and children shows like PEE-WEE'S PLAY HOUSE) MR. ROGERS maintained it's nice innocent feel until the end.

They seem to push letters and numbers more now than they did back in the day. As far as transitions, I guess maybe they have them now, and don't just jump around like they used to.

Another thing contrasting modern kids' shows from the ones we grew up with is that they all seem to be animated now. It's all cartoons...badly animated FLASH cartoons, no less. They really lack in quality, even by PBS' standards. Shows like Sesame Street, Mister Rogers and Pee-wee's Playhouse were live action and had real people interacting with puppets. It's unfortunate that kids today depend upon "animated bombardment" as Fred Rogers once called it, to get their information from. There's nothing wrong with animated programs, but don't you agree that young people need role models in the forms of real people too?

This new show from The Fred Rogers Company, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood is apparently trying to convey all the same lessons that MRN did, except this time it's through animated characters, so it doesn't have the same impact. Plus, that's not even Daniel Tiger. It's his son, apparently. Yeah, all the other residents of Make Believe got married and had kids at some point.
Their heart was in the right place at least.

I totally agree that they "don't make 'em like they used to" when it comes to kid shows. They do seem cheaply made & to forcefeed A,B,C's & numbers. Even though shows always seemed to have at least a moral story, they seemed to be a tad more subtle.

Just an tidbit, Jim Henson based the feel & look of Sesame Street on commercials. So, the cartoons, songs, skits jumped around a lot in the older episodes follow the look of commercials & channel surfing.

Just saw the episode where Big Bird visits the Land of Make-Believe. Kind of surreal seeing Big Bird interacting with X the Owl, Henrietta, and King Friday.

When theres no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.
