Just a Few Things I Want to Know…

Well in all the time growing up in the 70’s I never saw this (I think) & now with all the reruns of “Lost In Space” being shown on METV at Saturday nights, I haven’t stayed up to catch this as this is being shown at 3AM just after “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea” on the same channel. Saw only the beginning once to see how the intros went. But recently I have watched 30 minutes of a episode just last night & since I don’t know anything about this show/series I wanted to know a few things right off the bat.

This episode had to do with a jazz player (Sugar Ray Robinson of all people) being hassled by gangsters. He saw the little people, took them & threatened to call something called the S.I.D. on them. It seems that the giants aren’t surprised that these guys exist. So these giants on this world know that we exist & where were from? Also just maybe how we got there & things like that? I’m guessing us being there must be a common occurrence if they’re not all that shocked to see us & are on the lookout for us. So who goes there & how & why?

They think we’re “enemies?” Or invaders? What could they believe we could possibly do to them, what threat do we pose to them real or imagined? What would they do with us once they get ahold of us? Could they also in come to our world if they wanted? Is it a two way street so to speak?

One would think they’d be fascinated by us, establish relations, learn what they could after all they & we are but human or do they look at it like that? Is there anybody in this place that treats our characters ok & don’t want to kill us? I’m just curious to know some of these things so I’ll leave it to the diehard fans of this to fill me if any of you would be so kind. Thank you in advance.

I haven't seen it since it originally aired and I didn't see every ep. But I did read the novelization, so take this reply with a huge grain of salt.

"So these giants on this world know that we exist & where were from? Also just maybe how we got there & things like that?"

For the most part no. There seemed to be a government organization that knew of "little people" but their intentions were sort of vague.

iirc, there was a reference to an earlier crashed ship from Earth, but beyond that one reference I don't think it's ever mentioned again.

"They think we’re “enemies?” Or invaders? What could they believe we could possibly do to them, what threat do we pose to them real or imagined? What would they do with us once they get ahold of us?"

Again, the intentions of the government group were vague. Beyond studying the "little people" there wasn't much discussion of what they were going to do with the information.

The LotG weren't as technically advanced as the humans so no chance they could get to Earth. Not that it mattered... the Spindrift passed through a 'space storm' -- what would be called a worm hole in modern movies -- before it crashed. The Giants would presumably have to get to Earth via the same process.

I didn't watch much of it beyond the first season. Every ep was followed pretty much the same formula: "Little people! Catch them and put them in a cage." Then watch them spend the episode trying to escape using giant props. It got boring even for me as a little kid of 10.

S2 I think saw them travel to the other side of the planet.

Wikipedia seems to have a good summary of the series. Best bet is to start there...

The one-shot novel was pretty good. It was a bit more grounded in science.

Thank you Kabukiarmadi110! Thanks for the rundown, I appreciate it. This is what I just gleamed off of part of one episode but I’m happy for your explanation. The giant (Sugar Ray) seemed to know of the organization that wanted the little people so again I thought maybe knowledge of humans from earth was a common thing in their world but what you said made sense, but if we weren’t common knowledge to the people of their world how would Sugar Ray know who to call regarding them?

But once again thanks!
