GIANTS, AND ALL THAT JAZZ

The giants have jazz, too???!!! Is there anything in the giant's planet that is at all DIFFERENT from Earth?

The giants DID NOT have Jazz as we know it until Biff Bower learned how to play it from Dan. I think the giant gangster says something like: 'Jazz'.....not much of a name, but I think you've got something there'. So Jazz music is supposed to be new for them.

Some Differences from earth:

1) The giants do not have area codes for phone numbers. And phone numbers have six digits not seven.

2) They have poor night vision

3) space program is in infant stages of development. No serious threat to earth.

* It always seemed to be a fine sunny day with no rain clouds hovering

* The male population out numbered the female population ny approx 3 to 1

* There were no traffic signals

But fortunately, most of the giantesses were reasonably attractive looking women:

The giant scientist (from the pilot episode)
Osla Ekorb (Shell Game)
Mrs. Barra (Rescue)
Altha Franzen (Target: Earth)
Dr. North/Greer (Doomsday)
Lisa (The Marionettes)
Dr. Greta Gault (The Clones)

but for every beauty, you get the "beast"

Nell Herpey (Giants And All That Jazz)
Martha Cass (Six Hours To Live)

As a gay man, I can judge these things impartially, but what I cannot get is - with the exception of Dr. North and Lisa, the women were dressed in such dowdy 50's style looking outfits!!!!

The best explanation was that the producers just got sloppy and put no thought into it...and the other is that everything was "earth like" to keep production costs down. However, there were simple things that could've made the giant planet seem more alien like such as in the early episodes. The giants obviously spoke English to make them able to communicate with the little people but earlier on there were props designed with alien language. And also, the names should've stayed more alien and less (Anglo-English) sounding.

reply

No....no Fords existed on the giants planet. Only Chrysler products. LOL

Kobick drove a 1969 Plymouth Belvedere in most of the series episodes. Most of the b&w police cars in earlier episodes were from other 20th-Fox series of the 60s that used cop cars like "Batman" and "Felony Squad". The solid black SID cars were fairly unique to LOTG.

* The existence of a separate un-earthlike society in near proximity.

And also, 99% of the population was white. And the only black giant we've ever seen is an ex-boxer trumpet-player.

I found it ridiculous their planet had someone called 'Biff'!

Their currency was shown as different in one episode but in another episode, they mention dollars and the term 'a grand'.

Also, in the 2nd series, where did they get the new weapons from? In some episodes they leave things behind that turn up by the next episode. The grappling hook or that piece of blade on the matchstick was left behind in Six Hours to Live and the giant cop picked it up after they left.

I watched this episode recently and I thought the boxing guy was the worst acting I'd ever seen.

Then I read somewhere he was a famous boxer in real life. But an actor he was not. LOL.
