Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: A wrong decision is better than indecision.

reply

Do you think that's wise sir?

The world is your lobster.

leave it be those actors made those characters. Most would have rembered WW2 dont want dads army to be remembered as a bad film Been there Bought the T shirt

reply

There are many Frazers - "It's doomed!"
There are many Sergeant Wilson's - "Is that wise sir?"
I'm more of a Lance-Corporal Jones - "Don't panic!"

I'll put a bayonet into any of the gainsayers! "They don't like it up 'em!".

I think it will be like 2 Doctor Who films hardly mentioned in along side Doctor Who even on 50th anniveesary and Bernard Grittith Donnas grand dad was in 1 I dont think original Dads army film did very well It is hardly shown I just hope when they do make it I hope not in 3D

So what? It might be an utter catastrophe. If so, that does not detract from the original. It might be good. If so, I'm willing to lap it up.

That's a typical nazi trick, Wilson.

Marlon, Claudia and Dimby the cats 1989-2005, 2007 and 2010.

The Vicar isn't going to like this!

reply

no, it wasn't wise. J ust come from seeing it, and stunned by the sheer awfulness of it. Not one vestige of humour, wit or charm in the whole inpet mess.

Looking forward to this if it happens :) I've been thinking for years if a new series happened then Bill Nighy would be perfect as Wilson, very British and easy going :)

I think Clive Swift (Richard from Keeping up Appearances) would be great as Godfrey, he's getting near that age now and plays the sweet old man very well (was great in Old Guys too).

And maybe someone like Martin Freeman as Pike?

We could even see a reprise of the original actors as the Vicar and Mrs. Pike, plus a role/cameo for Ian Lavender would be nice :)

reply

Back in the 90s,I thought of Ian Lavender as Wilson.

Steve Delanely (Count Arthur Strong) could be a good choice now I think on it for Jones :)

I must admit, when I first read it I was a sceptic, but with Toby Jones and Bill Nighy rumoured as Mainwaring and Wilson I'm a bit more optimistic.

It would never be able to replace the classic series, and I would argue we don't really need it, after all, the original Dads Army film is an origin story, but maybe if they can capture the quintessential "Britishness" of the series it might be entertaining.

Still, it won't take away the original series or the film, nor will it "destroy" the series, so I'll wait and see.

reply

It's going to be a disaster. The sloppiness of the whole thing is demonstrated by the opening credits which state 'It's 1944 and Britain is on the verge of Defeat'.

reply

that doesn't sound good. i overheard two teenage girls on the bus today arguning over which of the origianl cast were in the new film "that's the same one, the old man "no it isn't" "what about Pike? He's the same, isn't he" etc etc. i thought it was quite sweet that although they were obviously familiar with dad's army and the characters, they had no idea how old the show wAs or that most of the characters are now deceased.

The Docudrama which aired over christmas was brilliant. Everyone should take a look at "We're Doomed! The Dad's Army Story".

The movie was Meh.... I thought it was nice that they let Frank Williams reprise his Vicar Role, Weird but nice.

reply

we're doomed was good. i thought the cast were all excellent. I particularly liked the cameo by Roy Hudd as bud Flanniganr ecording the theme song.
