They NEED to be released on DVD. I recently came into posession of the five episode VHS tape that I haven't seen for probably around ten years and enjoyed watching the episodes again.

reply

Warner Bros. are probably waiting to release this in summer 2008 to coincide with the release of "The Dark Knight". That's why the less seroius Ne Adventures of Batman was released in summer 2007.

reply

I certainly want a DVD of this. It is the only Batman cartoon that I am aware that has not had the entire series released on DVD or announced. I hope we get some good news soon.

Batman: The Original Series & The Adventures of Batman are the only 2 series that never been release, But you can buy Batman: TOS from Ioffer.com on a Studio Masters DVD

Much of the old Filmation and Hanna-Barbera cartoons from the 60s are in pretty bad shape. The cost of remastering vs the likely sales doesn't really balance out. I wouldn't hope for more than a Warner Archive release, based on sales of the other older cartoons (Filmation DC heroes, New Adv. of Batman, Ruby-Spears Superman, etc...). I have the series on a bootleg disc, and they are wathcable, but there are some pretty rough spots.

Where'd you get your Dvd from? Id love to have this show in any form.

reply

A site called Saturdaytoons. They have a lot of old adventure cartoons that aren't commercially available, including the Shazam cartoons, from the Kid Power Hour with Shazam, which showcased early writing from Paul Dini.

WB's digitial download team is like a black hole of things sometimes. Because apparently what is or is not there does not have any bearing on what WHV or WA plan to put on physical disc.....why? who the hell knows, and from what the WA people say whoever puts those things out isn't using the same vault sources they are (that was in response about live action show Harry O, which was put on digitial download years before WA put it out on dvd)

I'd say chances are good they'll get back to finishing up the filmation ones too. Last year saw the finish of the Hanna Barbera Super Friends sets among starting up others. WHV is seemingly going in the right direction.

I do notice they are putting out the other heroes segments on the smaller money grabber sets, and it makes me can't help but wonder like the other brands going through this, if this isn't to help fund the remastering and/or rights clearances preventing some of these franchises from being complete on DVD.

I don't typically like conspiracy theories, but it just seems like too much of a coincidence they stage the releases of these certain things like they do yet are still supposed to be interested in finishing them up. If they didn't care, WA would just do them and that would be the end of it, but since they are in this limbo, there has to be a method to the madness at work there.

Most DEFINITELY is! Bought it at Walmart June 5th, just after it came out!

Very austere package -- two disks (although I do like the 'compactness' of the set -- hate it when you're forced to buy a large number of disks for the amount of content!), the only extras are trailers for recent Bat-based animated DVDs. And the packaging only mentions voice credit for Olan Soulé and THE LATE -- R.I.P. -- Casey Kasem; not even Ted Knight -- AND it doesn't even MENTION Batgirl!

Each "title" on each disk covers a "half-hour episode" (nine on disk one, eight on disk two): one two-segment story plus one single-segment story. Each of the three segments in the half-hour is a "chapter".

The episode list is essentially as OrinAGN stated it, except the longer story comes first in every 'title', so in that list you switch the order WITHIN numbers 5, 6, 8 to 14, and 17.

Anyway, it's nice to finally be able to replace the 3-disk 'bootleg' set which has been floating around for years, whose source was the Superman-Batman Adventures syndication package from USA Network/Cartoon Network/Boomerang, where the longer stories were edited down; and which set was missing "Perilous Playthings" altogether (mis-labeling "Cool Cruel Christmas Caper" as that title); or other 'boots' based on low-grade sources.
