How long was the show?

On this website it says the show was an hour long but on The Boomerang Network they're showing 30 minute episodes, which is it? I seem to remember they were 30 minutes but it's been along time. Does anyone remember?

The episodes *I* watched every afternoon in the 1970s were 30 minutes long, to my recollection. However, it's very possible that those episodes -- and, by extension, the ones I now watch on Boomerang -- were cut-down syndicated versions of what was originally an hour-long Saturday morning show. As another poster mentioned, this was a technique used in syndicating reruns of "The Carol Burnett Show" (cut down to 30 minutes and syndicated as "Carol Burnett and Friends").

I have an old comic book with a Saturday morning cartoon ad that featured the Banana Splits, and according to it, the show did indeed run an hour.

If I remember correctly the show was 60 minutes long--I remember being completely hooked back in 1969 when it first aired! During the 60-minute episodes the furry quartet had much more airtime in between feature segments!

I believe that several years back (late 1980's-early 1990's) Mtv aired a Banana Splits Marathon ... The 60-minute version ...

The original 60 minutes version contained The Three Musketeers, Arabian Knights and an episode of Danger Island split in two parts.

The syndicated 30 minute version was the one hour version split in two:
The Three Musketeers, first part of Danger Island episode

then the next episode would have:
Arabian Knights, second part of Danger Island episode.

Originally in the UK it was shown on the BBC with no commercial breaks - I seem to remember it was about 40-45 minutes long, which would tally with an hour long show on commercial TV.

I also remember it being one hour long when it first debued. But it was an hour that went by fast, there was nothing boring in that show :D

I remember it used to be shown on BBC 1 on Friday evenings from 4.55p.m. until 5.40p.m.
I loved cliffhanger endings, so I was hooked when 'Danger Island' started. I remember the first episode ended with Jan Michael Vincent's character in the water with a shark closing in.
There was another cartoon later in the series called 'Micro Ventures' where the characters were able to shrink themselves and their car (a sort of buggy, I think).

Anyone know why it was edited to 30 minutes in syndication?

reply

Simple explanation as to why they split them into half hour shows. One it was easy to do with the format, and two, you get paid for two shows out of one.

I want it to live, I want it to breathe, I want it to aerobisize!

(Sorry for my ignorance)

How was it easier and who gets paid for 2 shows out of one?

reply

It ran for 2 seasons with 36 episodes.

reply

The show did run two seasons -- there were 31 one-hour shows, with 18 in the first season and 13 in the second. There are currently 36 half-hour shows that have been shown in reruns. These are edited from the 18 one-hour Season 1 shows. Hope that clears up any confusion.
