How come Reed never drives the car?

Over the years, I think I have seen almost every episode. However, I only recall 2 episodes where Reed drives the police car.

One episode is when the regular Adam 12 car is in for repairs and the guys are given a near junk replacement vehicle. Sure Malloy let Reed drive that old wreck before it finally died. The other episode is when Malloy is off and donating his time in a kiddie day camp and we see Reed on duty solo driving the car which does not make sense since 2 cops are required to patrol in a police car.

Did Reed ever get to drive Adam 12 in other episodes that I just don't remember? How come Malloy never let Reed drive that car? LOL.

There's a few others. In the first season, Malloy lets Reed go put gas in the car and he brings it back with a dent. I don't remember the season, but there's an episode where Mack does a spot inspection and finds Malloy's license to be expired. There's an episode where Malloy chases a suspect car while Reed isn't in it and he flips it over; Reed gets another car to use while searching for Malloy. In the final season they have a couple of episodes where Malloy fills in for Mack and Reed serves as training officer for Gus Corbin (played by Mark Harmon) and then Dana Hall (Jo-Ann Pflug - Lt. Dish in the original MASH movie).

Thanks. I knew there had to be other times where Reed drove. I wonder if one partner would really drive 99.5% or if they would split the driving? Come to think of it, he also did all the driving in Route 66 but at least he owned the vette.

Just saw that episode last week and you are 100% correct. Seems that Reed's driving skills would eventually kill off Malloy. Great scene with the running over of the hat and subsequent response regarding the injured hat.

They do a skit on Laugh-In here where they joke about Reed wanting to finally drive:
