M In Uniform.

This is the only film that I can think of that shows M, in his military uniform as well as Ms. Moneypenny. For that matter, coincidentally Bond appears wearing his for the first time in this & if I’m not mistaken we learn of his rank for the first time in this as well.

Most of the actors who played Bond appear in some of the films wearing their uniforms from time to time but unless I’m wrong this is the only time I believe that the characters of M, & Moneypenny were ever shown in uniform.

Never knew that they were in the service until this movie came along. Didn’t think being in the service was a prerequisite of his position but I could be wrong about that also. I’m assuming they both were. Even though being head of MI6 is prestigious enough in its own right, I’d have to assume it would be military policy to wear any respective uniforms ONLY if you were a part of the service to begin with.

Perhaps the novels fleshed out the characters better, I don’t know I’ve never read them. Nevertheless it’s a interesting trivia fact I think.

It wouldn't surprise me if senior MI6 members and their staff weren't given military ranks and at least on paper attached to some reserve arm of the military. This would allow them to work and coordinate with the military when needed and "fit in" to their rank hierarchy. There's probably other technicalities too, like being able to claim military status in some situations.

M and Moneypenny were on a Royal Navy submarine, so it would make sense they would be in-uniform.

It's probably a lot of formality, too, as all of them would be part of an entirely different command structure.
