Incredibly Disappointing...

I recently started Bond Marathon on BluRay. Having already seen Dalton, Brosnan and Craig's films, I didn't expect much. But Connery surprised me. That is until this horrible film. From the beginning(Dr. No), I learned to accept some plot holes. Until this film, the most important thing that bothered me was that anytime a villain gets his hands on Bond, He/She doesn't ever kill him even when it seems to be the obvious choice. It was difficult to accept that but the films have other positives which made me overlook their faults. But, this film was the peak of ridiculousness. The grand scale of the film although appreciable is not successful in covering up the glaringly imperfect plot. I see how the film could be visually great in 1967 but I cannot understand how in 2013, people are still appreciating it. I think Thunderball is the best Bond film with Goldfinger in the close second. Anybody else share my opinion?

These pretzels are making me THIRSTY...

I still enjoy watching this movie for the music, the atmosphere, and Donald Pleasance's chilling performance as Blofeld.

But I agree, it's impossible to ignore just how inane and hole-ridden the plot is. The movie feels almost like a compilation of very well-made scenes that don't actually make any sense when strung together.

Thunderball is also my favorite Bond film as well.

You must not have ever seen Moonraker.

I think this film begins the ascent up the (Fuji) mountain of ridiculousness. Bond getting a Japanese makeover (LOL!), fake married, ninja training, just to "be in disguise" for a couple of days. Mind you, the Japanese girls are honeys.

You just have to roll with it.

Well, alot of this was taken from Fleming's 1964 novel, except for all of the space stuff

In the book, they made him Japanese and married him to Kissy, for the purpose of training to infiltrate Blofeld's castle (not volcano) In the novel, Tiger Tanaka asks Bond to go to the castle to kill Dr. Shatterhand, who Bond later learns is Blofeld

I'll never understand how people like Thunderball. Dull and slow.

reply

Thunderball? Are you kidding me? That movie sucks. Although still better than just about any movie made these days.
But you got it right on Goldfinger, at least.

Plot holes in a James bond movie? There is no such thing. No need to over use the term

reply

Nah.

Fuck your opinion. From Russia With Love is easily the best and most complete Bond film.

The Bond blossom wilted with the end of the Cold War, he said, sadly.
