What was the point of the wedding?

Why did they put on the charade of the wedding? They were pretending to be honeymooning tourists, but did they really need a full blown wedding for that? Can someone explain? Thanks.

They were not pretending to be honeymooning tourists. The girl was local to the island and lived there. They needed an excuse for incorporating and infiltrating 007 to be there, hence the disguise and therefore the marriage, arranged supposedly like many were and still are in Japan.

This was one of the few things that also took place in the book

Seems to me like the wedding would draw unnecessary attention to Bond. If anyone caught him hanging around he could just say that hes married to that local girl and no one would bother checking marriage certificates to verify. By having a wedding it draws extra attention to the european-looking guy who showed up recently and instantly married a local girl and has been hanging out in Spectre territory too much.

reply

Because foreign people can't ever just visit a village without being instantly married to one of the villagers.

Logic 101..
