What happened to the American and Soviet Astronauts?

The Americans helped Bond into a space suit. But what happened after? And how about the Soviet astronauts?

reply

The movie doesn't show what happens to them.

The space-plot is necessary to establish the basis for the potential war between USA and USSR, but other than that the astronauts didn't matter to the story and so they were forgotten/ignored.

I assumed they escape out the volcano base, making a break for it when the ninja invasion occurred.

Been wondering that since I saw this movie as a kid. Figured someone would ask on here..... I think bond must have instructed them to escape. Would like to think they made it out.

Weren't they the prisoners Bond released from Blofeld's prison?

reply

The Soviets actually helped him too. Right before Bond rescues them, you can hear the astronauts talking to each other. The Americans are asking the Russians how they became astronauts. It's very hard to hear, though; I only heard it when I watched the movie with headphones.

As for what happened to them afterward... they were dressed up as the enemy when an army of ninjas with machine guns invaded and started blowing away anyone who was wearing a white uniform. Do the math.

In other words, they became the Bond movies version of redshirts.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

If I remember correctly there are only 3 astronauts/cosmonauts. 1 American, 2 Soviet. The other American was left in space when the predator ship cut his lifeline.
