Bill Cosby was supposed to star

The director of this movie - Howie Morris - told me that he wanted Bill Cosby to star in the Jim Hutton part, and Cosby wanted very much to do it, but the studio wouldn't go for it.

reply

you don't say!

Why wouldn't the studio go for it?

I have always liked Bill Cosby, ever since I saw him in "The Cosby Show" (when I was a kid and preteen), but I'm sure glad that Jim Hutton had the leading role. :)

Jim Hutton as Ellery Queen - totally hot!

reply

This would be the same Howard Morris who played the part of Ernest T Bass in the Andy Griffith series of the 60s....?

The answer obviously speaks for itself - he was out of his mind! (LOL)

reply

Its obvious because he was black and it was still in the days of racial tension in the states.

reply

Can you really assume that was the reason? Spare me the knee-jerk over-reaction to 60s culture. Racism wasn't always at the root of every issue. Hutton had a wide fan base at the time, very popular with the ladies. Perhaps Cosby rubbed someone the wrong way, or his proclivity for deviant sexual behavior was already well-known Hollywood issue?

reply

Racism was more an issue back then.
