Inspiration for Monty Python?

A lot about this movie reminded me of Monty Python: the scattershot anarchic tone, the absurdist dialog, the gross-outs. I wonder if the Monty Python crew saw this and said we can do this only not quite so grim.

I think it's quite likely that every member of Monty Python saw this movie. I'm sure it was an influence, along with many other counterculture films of the 60s. But I wouldn't give too much credit to Godard for the genius of Monty Python.

I agree that there's a "Monty Python"-esque vibe to some of this film, and that one or all of them have probably seen it. In fact, one of their sketches was a send-up of stereotypical French "art films", and it was heavily, obviously Godardian (and hilarious!). The Pythons were admitted fans of Luis Buñuel - watch some of his films, like The Milky Way and The Phantom of Liberty, and you'll see even further similarities.

I said on another thread that this film reminds me of Monty Python on ice.🐭

It's very presumptuous and perhaps a bit arrogant for anyone to say what someone else has seen unless they have firsthand knowledge.

Of course presumption and arrogance are nothing new to these message boards.

Except that Monty Python was funny and witty. Actually, it`s more reminiscent of Bunuel though as both use this anarchic tone, absurdism and strange behaviour in the service of sociopolitical criticism (not a difficult parallel to draw, considering that a section of Weekend was titled Exterminating Angel, of course).
