Was heroin ever worth that much..

back then...I know today that doll with all those packs would be worth a few thousand $ at most...just seems like a lot to go through for such a little amout of H.

I believe mike and Carlito really wanted the doll, roat was a psychopath and I think he wanted a little more than just the doll, he wanted to do evil things..

I Came, I Saw, I Conquered.

The price doesn't matter. The heroin is a McGuffin.

reply

Darren McGavin isn't even in this film!

If it being illegally exported from one country to another, I'd assume the price would be heftier than purchasing it on the street.

Roat mentioned something about Lisa trying to do some side deal or whatever. So probably the value of the stuff was irrelevant and it was more of a mob type thing where they gotta get what's theirs.

Pretty much this. The movie kind of hints that mob politics, as well as monetary profit, is involved in the pursuit to get the doll back. Remember, part of Lisa's crime is "going into business for herself."

Also, as Hitchcock points out, the McGuffin itself is irrelevant. It could have been anything. The point is everyone wants it.
