Minder was a dick in this.

Sometimes you have to appreciate that you're punching above your weight and try to tone down your selfishness or moodiness.

Minder seemed to pout every time any of her friends came near, and at one point he was sitting in bed, reading "Giggle", while this beautiful posh girl was making his breakfast! He throws a strop when her friend arrives, leaves his breakfast (which looked lovely, by the way), gets dressed, tucks his "Giggle" under his arm and storms off!

Most women would have told him to sling his hook, let alone a beautiful, rich bird who could have her choice of men, but she seems to bend over backwards to talk him round and make him happy. But still he continues with the boorish behaviour!

I'd like to see who he ended up with after the event at the end had worked itself out - even then she was still pining for him! Maybe she saw something in Minder that we the audience (*cough*) couldn't, if you catch my drift. In which case...I've got no chance.

The behaviors you describe are supposed to indicate that Peter aspires to better himself in life; he dislikes girls of his own class and doesn't like Polly slumming around with them, either.

Peter was quite abrupt and impatient with Polly outside the furniture shop until she spoke and he realized she was posh. Then he was suddenly interested in her.

Every time he and Polly have an argument or misunderstanding, it's about her fascination with gritty working-class Battersea life, which he would prefer to leave behind as soon as possible. Peter doesn't understand that she sees him as being very much a part of that Battersea life, not his aspirational self. If she knew how much he longed for something better, she wouldn't want to be with him anymore.

Polly's not very bright. I don't think she has much of an inkling how Peter feels, even at the end, although he now understands her completely.
