I'm FB friends with Ms Kaufman (UTDS was one of my favorite books as a teen-ager and when I found her on FB, she was kind enough to accept a friend request from a fan-girl!)

It's being mentioned on her FB that she has passed away at the age of 103(!)

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned in any of the UTDS threads, but her grandfather was Sholem Aleichem, the Yiddish writer whose stories about Tevye the Dairyman inspired Fiddler on the Roof.
