Okay, this is a crazy question but one that i have to ask cause i have always wondered what movie this scene takes place in. One night on basic cable i caught this scene and it's often haunted me because i have a bit of a fear of bugs, spiders, etc. Anywho, it seems that it would most likely be a movie that has something to do with drugs. The scene is this. There's a guy freaking out in a bathroom shower screaming while a giant green bug like thing is attacking him. the bug looks kind of like a giant fly but it's green all over. I have seen it parodied a couple of times, but i've never actually figured out what this film scene comes from. Anyway, i didn't know if it was this movie or another drug movie. If anyone knows what this movie is it would be awesome. Thanks. I know this is a crazy question, but i'm a crazy person. just need to figure this out. i'm thinking it's some movie that was made in the seventies or so.

Bugsy? A Bugs Life? The Ex-Terminator? Or maybe it was a Bugs Buggy cartoon?

I thought i might have been "Naked lunch" since there are lots of giant bugs in that film. So i checked but it has no such scene (the guy does kill a centipede in a shower though, but not a giant one).

You could search for the parodies that you mentioned and see if there's anything in the trivia about the original film.

Gosh...there have been so many movies throughout the years, dealing with giant insects/parasites attacking people. My guess is that you saw a scene from either: "The Beginning of the End" (1957), "The Brain Eaters" (1958), "The Tingler" (1959), "Bug" (1975), "They Came from Within" (1975), or "Matinee" (1993). If I can think of other titles, I will post them, as soon as possible. In the meantime...type in these films in the IMDB "Search Engine." Perhaps the information about them will re-fresh your memory?

Well "Naked Lunch" in 1991 had bugs in it. It was about the heroin addict, novelist, and Beatnik writer William Burroughs. It was a very disturbing movie... Unless you're referring to "The Fly" with Jeff Goldblum who turned into a big, green fly.

Neo: There's a moment in The Monkees' "Head" where first Davy Jones goes into a public restroom to wash his hands, then Peter Tork. I can't recall exactly the sequence, but at one point someone opens a door or a medicine cabinet and WHAM! you're hit with a picture of a giant grasshopper. Cheap scare tactic.

I could be wrong though, but this seems like the scene. Could be from "Bug" or "Squirm", too.
