I liked it...

But the name is kind of weird, a bit misleading.

I liked it too. I can't imagine why anybody would put this film down. It seems like a lost classic to me. I only say "lost" because I had never heard of the film and didn't even know it had already been released on DVD in the U.S.

I caught this film on TMC last night-loved it! It felt to me like four episodes of the Twilight Zone strung together, each with its own message. Then they tied in at the end with the "shocker" ending. By today's standards, this may not be so dramatic, but this film features three legendary actors (Meredith, Palance and Cushing) and has a creepy feeling to it...just right for the Halloween season!

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

and he doesn't!

I really liked it too. I think it's deserving of much more praise than criticism. A great group of actors, stories that pulled me in and the film is stunning to look at. Some of the lighting reminded me of Bava's films with its use of color. I loved Burgess Meredith's character. Like Vincent Price, he always seemed to really enjoy whatever part he was playing. And what a terrific voice. It's an entertaining movie and a good one to pop on late at night or on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

now that you mention it, the title is quite misleading, isn't it. i knew about this movie for years and didn't get it untill now, i've always enoyed the acting of the stars in this. i was affraid towards the end they wouldn't act in a "story". i didn't enjoy it as much as "from beyond the grave", wich by the way also had peter cushing in it if i don't recall wrong. but i must say i thoroughly enjoyed the acting on the last part.

stolen summer, season went by,
i had so many plans laid out,
but the days just passed,
and nothing were nowhere at,
i had set up plans for early months,
and now waiting is fall,
nothing nowhere to be found at all,
a whole year will pass,
untill the season come back,
and who know how things will look then,
stolen summer, obandend moments,
will never come back again.

reply

Agreed on the title. Anyway, I did enjoy this movie. It has its moments.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

reply

I enjoyed the movie as well. Anthology type horror movies are one of my favorite kinds. The title is a really good title, but it really doesn't have anything to do with the movie.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

reply

The title has always been a mystery to me. Sometimes an obscure title can be traced to a quotation from some past literary work. But I've never been able to find anything about the coining of Torture Garden. If it was especially coined for the film it is hard to see what it is referring to. Good cast so it is enjoyable for anybody who follows Jack Palance, Burgess Meredith or Peter Cushing.

Every time I try to Google the title all that comes up is some fetish club when I want to see about the movie. It's very annoying.

reply

That's really annoying. Perhaps try to Google the year 1967 with the title, and it might avoid you getting the pervy stuff coming up.

reply

I did it and it worked. I hate when two things have the same name.

reply

I liked it too
