Wiseman is right

He does not believe that his movies should be available to individuals.

He wants people to experience his movies in groups = colleges etc.

Its a way of having complete artistic control over his work.

I am sure he would make much more money selling his films in the normal way for $30 on Amazon.com.

I think he is just an elitist snob who thinks his documentaries are so above the average person's comprehension than you need a group to understand him.

I saw it in class and we had an amazing discussion, but I don't understand the big difference if I saw it by myself. I would have the same opinion on the documentary.

He's probably just trying to foster discussion. It's a good idea to use films as a means to discuss wider issues. Show a Wiseman film to a class full of people and suddenly you have all sorts of opinions bouncing back and forth, clashing and cancelling one another out. Eventually you arrive at some sort of truth.

He also has links on his website to various places in the U.S. and Canada (and Germany) where individuals can rent the films on dvd. Check the FAQ page on the site.

Source???

Maybe showing "Titicut Follies" only to folks with an "educational license" was more about complying with the court ruling that banned its individual distribution than it was about Wiseman's preferences.

If that's true which I hope it isn't then Wiseman makes it harder for everyone to watch this documentary. The only difference from one to many is the ability to have a discussion about it.
