shareThis page provides some answers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THX_1138#Trivia
shareIts nothing to do with the THX sound system which is just a coincidence. THX 1138 was Lucas's phone number at film school and the 4 EB bit just means 4 'earth born'. yes, a lucas geek i am!
shareIt's not really a coincidence, as ILM created/founded/whatever'd THX.

Of course THX was a Lucasfilm creation... but if you think THX sound was around when this student film (or even it's remake) was made... think again. Lucas geeks not withstanding, this student film came LONG BEFORE there was even the idea regarding TXH sound. Think about it... how could it POSSIBLY be related, in the way mentioned in the start of this thread?
Looking at it in the reverse order (THX sound, related to this film - or the remake) an argument could be made there, but it would be 'mostly' incorrect... THX (the sound system - not the film) stands for Tomlinson Holman's eXperiment, referring to the fact that the THX sound definitions were "invented" by Tomlinson Holman. The name was chosen partly because of his name, and partly as a nod to GL's first full length film (the remake of this student film under discussion here).
Signature, schmigmature...
The abbreviation THX and the number 21-87 (the title of a short experimental film by Arthur Lipsett) are used by Lucas in many of his projects.
