Really good film

Roger Corman is in top form here.

Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

SPOILERS

One thing puzzled me, right at the end. I wonder why they mentioned Al Capone's death with a shot of his gravestone ? It felt out of place considering the title and events of the film.

Some people say Jason Robards was wrong for the part. It did not bother me, although the flaws with his casting are noticeable.

I enjoyed the actor playing Bugs Moran. Also nice seeing a young Bruce Dern.

A film that is more than a worthy entry into the historical events archives captured on film.

I LOVED this movie. It's very accurate, considering Hollywood's history of completely making things up in BioPics, and has a humanity about it. (I love the shot of Adam Hier scraping the butter from the plate, then putting it back in the icebox, and Bruce Dern's sad attempt to be left out of the police raid that seals his fate, & the suspicious landlady) It's little things like that, those that make the film just a bit more realistic. Next, these are really bad guys, not the charming, dashing gangsters of many other films. The Gusenberg's, Al Capone, and Bugs Moran were hardened criminals, and it showed. The narration is great, adding a lot of excellent information about the main characters, and their fates. Finally, the massacre scene is truly disturbing, even to this day. You really have to feel for John May, and Rheinhold Schwimmer, who really were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. In many ways, they lived desperate lives, and died because of it. Such a great movie, Corman did a hell of a job.
