Incredible Art, Furniture, Sets

I jave recently viewed a new, very high quality version of this film. I have watched it in the past several times. On this occasion I started paying more attention to the backgrounds, to the sets. The sets are truly amazing. All the interior shots are filled with period treasures of furniture, mirrors, nick-knacks, paintings, lamps and assorted items that really made me marvel the more I paid attention to them. The set designers and property masters seem to have had a huge budget and a free hand. Watching the somewhat over the top actors strut and act their way around such rich sets added to an enjoyment of this film. Some of the room sets are just spectacular, filled with artistic objects that are stunning.

As I got more into this exercise I started pausing the playback so I could study some of the sets more carefully. Very enjoyable. I recommend paying attention. Corman really and truly did a great job on this film, and finally paying attention to the richness and detail of the sets has added an entirely new appreciation to his work here. He clearly shows an above average, rather exceptional eye.

Nano,

The set director for this film was Steve Potter. Here's his site:

You will note he did a lot of other work in Hollywood. Lots of tv from Dr. Kildare to the Beverly Hillbillies to films like this one. It's a long list.
